Alice Wootson's
Romantic Interlude
About
Alice Wootson
Like
my sister, BET author Marilyn Tyner, I was born in Rankin, PA, a small town
outside of Pittsburgh.
I came to the Philadelphia area to attend Cheyney University. After I graduated, I
began teaching, first in Chester, PA and then in
Philadelphia.
I have been an avid reader since I learned to read. I read a variety of genres,
but most of what I read is romance. (I like happy
endings).
I began writing poetry when I was in grade school and I still do. In fact, an
agent told me that my work was too poetic to sell commercially. (Two days later
I received a call from Karen Thomas at Arabesque asking if my manuscript was
still available because she liked it).
The manuscript was SNOWBOUND WITH LOVE, and when I hear from readers,
they tell me how much they like the fact that it was so
poetic.
I didn't do much writing while our children were young, but I did write an
occasional short story. After they were grown and computers became readily
available, I began writing in earnest. Now, I can't stop; I have all of these
people poking me and nagging me to write their stories.
I retired from teaching and now write full time.
I'm active in the Mad Poet's Organization and a board
member of the Philadelphia Writer's Conference.
July, 2010
Hello, everybody. I just finished an author event at the Norristown Library. They spotlighted 40 local authors at their festival. The good thing is that I found it without getting lost. Of course, my husband led me to the Norristown city limits. Also of course, I had to ask for directions. I should have been embarrassed. Here is how the
conversation went:
Me: "Excuse me. Can you tell me where the library is?"
Him: "The library?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "Right there." He pointed to a large building a few feet ahead.
The large sign in front announced the name. As my mother used to say, ‘If it had been a snake it would have bit you’.
In my defense, I hadn’t reached it so I didn’t know. I did know that I have a tendency to get lost. So much so that I build in ‘getting lost time’ when I have to go someplace new.
(I had a GPS which my family insisted I get. Somebody stole it from my car, which is another story. The stupid person left the adaptor behind and the unit was broken so it was useless. I would have loved to see his/her face when they learned that.)
More news from the book front. Four books are back-in-print through I-universe. They can be ordered from the company or through bookstores. As soon as the others are available, I’ll arrange a package deal which includes advertising and mentions all of the titles while highlighting one.
I’m revising two completed novels for the inspirational romantic suspense market. They both have border Patrol agents on the Texas-Mexican border.
Finally, nothing to do with writing, but still an accomplishment. I just finished a 4½ mile walk sponsored by me church, Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church. It wasn’t the distance that was so challenging; it was the fact that most of it is uphill from our original church building to the new. That, plus the fact that it was humid and the temperature was in the high 90’s didn’t help. (This was my 4th walk.) Each year a different charity benefits from all the money raised. This year we supported two health centers in different sections of the city. One serves the homeless population. The
other serves the working poor and immigrants. The patients get medical care, medication and medical counseling.
I guess that’s it for now. Please look for the re-releases. The covers will be different, but the stories are the same. As soon as I get a contract for a new book, I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, keep on reading.
